Wednesday

“Seven Deadly Sins
Wealth without work
Pleasure without conscience
Science without humanity
Knowledge without character
Politics without principle
Commerce without morality
Worship without sacrifice.”

Good Morning World... Wed 31st, 6.17, 14.4dg. Not a lot done yesterday as I went into Bludenz to do a few "things". Achieved that and some ... Took two loads of garden up to the recycler, might need to purchase a new battery for this scooter if I decide to keep it, my response to the stares is to say hello now as I am travelling slowly enough on the up journey for power preservation I can engage with pedestrians !!! Golf training last night was a predictable where were you? One girl answered Simon with a "In meinem Wohnzimmer... " there was not a lot he could say !! Bless, I am not the only one. Today I am trying for the finish line on the hedges, and a little firewood. Wish me luck.

Tuesday...

Age wrinkles the body. Quitting wrinkles the soul.

Good Morning World...Tues 30th, 5.50, 13.2dg. The air temp coming through the verandah doors in my bedroom is significantly cooler, quite nice for a little change. Was rained off the job yesterday, but not before I completed one hedge line... yay !! and my new light weight step ladder was brilliant, I ask why I waited so long to get it, probably falling into the taller hedge the other day spurred me along, the end result of that mishap is a rather large opps hole in the profile line of the hedge.. no matter.. it is a bit like your hair and grows back. So rain yesterday, not something we have had a lot of, the garden is stretching and smiling at me again. I see the weather station has not registered the rain fall from yesterday sadly so it must mean a spider inside the workings... first job today to clean and reset. I can hear a little voice up there saying you should have checked it before you put it out after winter, tut tut. Golf training tonight, and more than likely more grief from the Pro as I am still not playing the weekly or special tournaments.. I will smile at him and say.. in my own time Boyo. Using my unique form of transport to take more trimming loads to the recyclinghof today.. just loving it !!! Hugs to all out there.
Your smile of the day from my Poppet...

New week..

The right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously.

Good Morning World... Mon 29th, 5.59, 20dg. Thank goodness yesterday was a Sunday and it could be spent inside without a guilty conscience... It was so hot outside yesterday that the idea of doing anything was impossible. Interesting game of golf.. once again the course at 7.30am was like Grand Central Station. I will be pleased when the holiday season is over and we go back to normal numbers playing in our little corner. F1 from the Hungaroring was an interesting race in the heat, a good win to Hamilton, to be perfectly honest anyone other than Vettel winning is a good race. Today I am back on the hedge cutter.. now I just want the darn hedges finished, I am thinking another day after today and then I can put the machine away. Am going to advertise my beautiful Vespa for sale, had an interested party a couple of weeks ago so that has now given me a bench mark. I have tried e-Bay but they say 700.00 euro is the highest you can list... what a waste of time.!!This week I will also be actively pursuing people who handle disability/ rehab equipment as I want the garage cleared. Plenty on. They say today, thunder, lightning, rain and hail, I say if it happens.

Good result

Watched a fantastic chat on Sky Sports F1 with Sir Jack Brabham.. Now waiting for lights out at the very hot Hungaroring
When you choose not to have a car and you need to shift a lot of garden rubbish, this is an option !!! Have been trying to sell all his mobility equipment for ages with no luck so am putting some of it to use...My late husband's electro scooter with trailer, worked brilliantly.

End of week

A smile is a curve that sets everything straight.

Good Morning World...Sun 28th, 5.58, 19.4dg. Endless summer... smiles all round. Yesterday went well... obviously as I am here to write today. Three loads of hedge trimmings taken to the recyclinghof with my new form of transport, in amongst the mountain bike race. Use of wing mirror most important but they did have road marshalls controlling traffic!! I thought I caused a stir when I used my bike in a dress and high heels, then more of a stir as I pull my golf trolley behind the bike to get to the golf course, but the faces on those I passed and passed me were priceless yesterday.. Couldn't wave as the throttle needs constant tension, so just smiled and shrugged my shoulders!! Way too hot to work after lunch so chilled out... so to speak. Put the outside shower up under the trees and lay in the sun to do mag catchup.
Off for a very early 9 holes this morning.. when I played Thursday it was like Grand Central Station at rush hour. Otherwise it's Sunday so a do nothing day... Hmmmm, smiling.

Drinking tonight..

A fabulous Sables d'Azur Rose... as it is so hot here, still 33dg in the shade at 7pm, I am adding a block of ice.. Mmmm

Saturday..

It's not the fall that kills you; it's the sudden stop at the end.

Good Morning World...Sat 27th, 6.31, 18.4dg. Yesterday I registered a high, in the shade, of 37.1 dg... no wonder the hedge cutter felt so heavy. Today I have two tasks.. the first is to test the policies of the local Police Force. I have charged Paulii's grey mobility scooter, filled the small trailer he had made to go behind it, and am going to take it up to the recycling hof... watch this space, it could be interesting. The second is to do all the ladder work to cut the tops of the hedges... I am not a happy vegemite but it needs to be done, other wise the hedges look a bit like a bad haircut... sort of Justin Bieberish with too much fluff on top. Today they say our temps will be as high if not higher than yesterday, fab, just love it when your vision is obscured with sweat running down your face. Last night I gave in and took some sleep encouragement.. impressed, may do it again. The best part is it is not a prescription chemical. No golf as there is an all day tournier, hopefully an early round in the cool tomorrow ... Happy Saturday..

Friday

Patience and fortitude conquer all things.

Good Morning World...Fri 26th, 6.01, 17.6dg. Patience I have by the truck load, fortitude I have also by the truck load.. both of which are being sorely tested with all the hedge cutting I have, amongst other things. Yesterday was a day to play a little golf, lie in the sun, read a good book, swim a little at 32dg, this week end they are predicting highs up to 37dg.. bring on Sunday as I can't operate machinery on a Sunday... yayyy. Two trips up to the re-cycle plant yesterday one on foot the other by bike.. not sure which is the harder when both ways means I am pulling a huge garden sack of hedge cuttings for the dump. Walking takes longer. I have my conversation girls this morning, and there set task from last week will be interesting listening. Today I am going to ask them for an off the cuff description on a mystery word, this way they don't have the luxury of looking in their work books or dictionaries for words of expression, or indeed a week to prepare an answer. Mean, no, just keeping it interesting. My Poppet is starting the standing test.. from the back view looks hilarious, I imagine there will be much frustration and tumbling before she gets anywhere near completion. Back on the hedge cutter after the girls have left... bought a small 5 litre container of 50:1 fuel for the hedge cutter yesterday... 11 euros!!! Thank goodness I do not have a car. Shanks's Pony for me.

Thursday

“An eye for an eye will only make the whole world blind.”

Good Morning World...Thurs 25th, 6.22, 15.6dg. Not too sure why I am going to bed each evening, it seems a waste of time when sleep is so evasive. Yesterday we had a light cloud cover for most of the day, early morning round of golf then back to do inside necessities... the heavy rain from the previous night caused a little havoc, after sweeping up all the lifted moss from the cobbles I found that the laundry had had a river through it. The rain was so heavy that the cellar drain could not cope so it backs up against the cellar door, and water being water always finds a way ...HmmHmm. In three months I will be underway, how fast the year is disappearing, and at this stage thankfully, plenty of time to finish all the things that need to be done before I leave. No golf today... wood pile then hedges, and topiaries need trimming. Went to do a little retail at the Lidl as they advertised Pouilly Fume on special, buy two get one free.. I am in there I thought. Got to check out with three bottles and she charged me full price for three.. I suggested that the offer was buy two get one free, they said no, that starts Thursday 8am, they offered me three euros return for the third bottle when it costs six.. I said no, you may have them all back, as it was 4.30 pm Wednesday. She said come in tomorrow and you can have your three for two... !!! I love their flexibility.

Wednesday

Ambition is enthusiasm with a purpose.

Good Morning World...Wed 24th, 6.00, 14.8dg. Last night God turned on a party anyone would envy... the percussion and lighting show were unbelievable, and then the rain came in and it was like an afternoon in Singapore with the torrential downpour. My garden is smiling. Wood pile growing ... have decided that with extreme caution I can continue with the drop saw as it is... yup.. extreme caution. Bless, just spent over an hour on Skype with my Mother..   .. the month I will be spending with her when I take Mel and the Poppet down to Wanaka will be interesting to say the least!! There is not a lot to recommend old age, but good care, a watchful eye and support is the only way forward. Off to golf this morning... a small discussion with the Pro at training last night as to my decision to stop tournament play.. I knew he would be miffy with me, I am like a little donkey, my back feet are very firmly in the ground until I am ready to move again. Joy oh joy.

Tuesday

An object in motion will always be headed in the wrong direction.

Good Morning World...Tues 23rd, 6.10, 16.8dg. Hot and very summery.. fantastic. Wonderful game of golf at 7am yesterday.. the grass is now very dewy!! Small issue with the saw bench yesterday.. flying objects and the end result a broken safety guard... Went into Bludenz to try and order a replacement safety guard but the Austrian firm no longer makes them, apparently my machine is the wrong colour now!!! And I thought that was only for fashion. I am well miffed as the good part of me says no more using the drop saw, the bad part of me tells me to carry on as I have a shed load of wood still to cut... Grrr Grrr. Under consideration. Oh for the simple life. Next year they can deliver it all cut and ready to stack... am so over this. Off to do 9 holes again this morning... am still not convinced that the tournaments are good for my head, my friend tells me to spike the water bottle.... work in progress!! I imagine that the Pro will have major comment on that aspect tonight at training. Delightful news about little Baby Cambridge... this little soul will need big shoulders, but born under a good star sign. Bless.

Start of the week...

If you step in a puddle, don't blame the puddle.

Good Morning World, Mon 22nd, 5.43, 16.2dg. Monday, start of a new week, same challenges but hopefully results. Early round of golf yesterday was most gratifying, played with two others and played well... it is just the wretched tournament brain that is uncontrollable. Will be on course early this morning to keep up the good work then back into the wood pile until the sun comes over the garage roof.  Every evening we are having beautiful refreshing rains so it saves my water bill not having to water the garden. This week is forecast for 30+dg every day.. perfekt for the holiday makers. Looking at the pics from Wellington airport after the weekend action I thought to myself that the ground fissures will add spice to an already interesting area for the planes to negotiate.. the cross wind is bad enough there !! Happy days.

End of Week

Be thankful for the bad things in life, for they opened your eyes to the good things you weren't paying attention to before.

Good Morning World...Sun 21st, 5.59, 16.7dg. After eleven hours of being Mother In Charge I am please today is a quiet, no loud outside work allowed day. No wood cutting, no mowing, no hedge cutting. Yesterday was a full on day and as this house is not really set up for littles I had to help them with their entertainment. Amusing the attention span, especially when you are not winning the game !!! We were rained off the swimming pools at just after 4pm, had been watching the CS roll in over the top of the Hoch Joch. You get fantastic weather displays living in the mountains. Today a relaxing 9 holes on the golf course .. early.. before the Sunday crowds and the heat. I am cooking a New Zealand lamb shoulder on the Bar-B-Que for lunch, boned, butterflied and marinated... Happy face to have a little taste of home. I buy this from the Turkish grocer across from the Bahnhof in Bludenz for a price comparable to what you would pay in NZ for the same thing... Thank you Mr Affco. Enjoy your Sunday.

Saturday

Silence is one of the hardest arguments to refute.

Good Morning World...Sat 20th, 5.34, 14.8dg. The summer dial is still turned very firmly to hot... no complaints. An hour and a half with my conversation girls yesterday, then off to the golf course for a quick 9 holes in the mid-day sun. Delicious buffalo mozarella, summer tomatoes and basil for lunch then back onto the hedge trimmer, have done the outside of another length of roadside hedge.. this one is a high one so it is ladder work.. badly bitten by some delightful Austrian creature that looks like an immature wasp... one that people maintain does not bite... let me tell you it bites and seemingly I am allergic to it, so antihistimine to control the swelling, it must love the taste of New Zealand... my legs look lovely in a dress with swollen lumps everywhere. My fault as I forgot to spray my self before I started. Today I am Mother In Charge to two 8 year olds, so we will have a masterclass in making fresh pasta for lunch then off to the Schwimmbad for the afternoon, hopefully we will not be chased off by thunderstorms. Happy weekend...

Friday

Joy comes from using your potential.

Good Morning World...Fri 19th, 5.56, 14.3dg. I cannot believe how dark the morning is at 5am, and how dewy things left outside overnight and how wet the grass is early morning... we are on the slide side of summer, not that you would know it from the daytime temps. Yesterday's game of golf was a sanity saver... thank goodness. Will go back today just to make sure!! We have had fantastic thunder and lightning shows two evenings in a row, and with that some fabulous torrential, garden soaking rains. Last nights thunder claps and lightning were directly over the house and gave me such a fright I slopped my wine... opps!! No time to do wood yesterday, hopefully today at some stage, but also have more hedges to cut, these ones are ladder required and am not so keen on them, a bit to do, difficult with only 24hrs in a day. Happy Friday.

Thursday

Sports do not build character. They reveal it.

Good Morning World...Thurs 16th, 6.21, 14.4dg. If the above is true then I need help... what a totally shitty shitty tournier in the rain last night... Fun ? you have to be joking. That, my dear is the absolute last.. I do not give a flying fat rats **** about a handicap it can go and take a flying leap off somewhere high. The fact that I cannot play on the more prestigious courses around Europe does not bother me. Rant for thursday done. Yesterday morning I finished cutting the short road hedge, then cut and split firewood until the sun hit the back of the garage.. Using the drop saw to cut the wood into lengths is a little quicker in some respects than the chainsaw, the vigilance factor just has to be a lot higher, I think if he were watching he would approve, I have a little system going with both the saw and splitter side by side, so cut, split and biff!!... cannot stack it inside the garage until I can get rid of all of Paulii's scooters and wheelchairs... La la la la. If I were to wear a hat today it would have " fed up " embroidered on the front with respect to trying to sell all his equipment. I am obviously being tested for a reason... just need someone to explain it to me. Conversation girls this morning that is always fun. I might go down to the golf course afterwards and prove to myself I am better than last nights performance... Happy days!!

Wednesday

People tend to make rules for others and exceptions for themselves.

Good Morning World...Wed 17th, 5.31, 15.2dg. Our fabulous summer weather continues on.. hopefully the predicted thunderstorms for this evening will come AFTER the golf tournier, save me watering the garden. Last night at golf training our naughty little Welsh golf pro was rude enough to suggest that I may get wet tonight during play rather than after... I refused to play in the last Wednesday tournier as it was raining just before I was due to head off to the golf course.. He called me a softie!!! Umm hello, I ride a bike to golf with my golf bag clipped onto my carrier trailing behind me.. no car. Enjoyment factor in the rain is for littles. Today I am out early to cut the road side hedge before any breeze, saves it blowing all over the road.. the Gemeinde get miffy with me if my footpath hedges are not kept trimmed!! Then back to the wood pile before the sun gets around to the back of the garage. Idle hands!! I think not. Enjoy

Tuesday

What we have to learn to do, we learn by doing.

Good Morning World...Tues 16th, 5.14, 13.9dg. The birds are singing for their lives outside, and this hour of the morning is not as light as it was this time last month.. Saying that, firewood started yesterday.. I sat in the garage and read the manual on Paulii's drop saw for nearly an hour as I could not get the handle to raise, but also as I had never used one before..Safety always and my fingers are important to me.. a girl needs ten finger nails to paint!! WD 40 is the answer to many problems, just love it. It is a little like a sticking plaster. Played 9 holes early yesterday.. on course at 7.45, then home to mow the pocket handkerchief, cut the inside of the road hedge and then wood.. Halo bright and shiny. Last night a little bit of Australia returned to Schruns for their final hurrah before starting their journey back home. We had a beautiful meal at the Montafoner Hof in Tschagguns, not too rowdy as I will not drink schnapps at the end of the evening, no way !! A wonderful evening, thank you both, travel safely, and please return in the winter for a little bit of piste play. For me today an English tuition little this morning then back at the wood pile... la la la.

Monday, 15 July 2013

Monday..

You will never win if you never begin.

Good Morning World...Mon 15th, 5.21, 14.6dg. Yesterday was a stunning summer's day and the whole week is set to sizzle!! Left home at 7.45 to play 9 holes only to find they had a 6am tournier on at the club.. rats I hate that, so spent a couple of hours on the driving range instead. All good practice. Then... wait for it... I came home and went out to the wood bundles.. yep, started releasing the bundles to stack in preparation to cut, spilt and stack my winter supplies. Am feeling faint with the task, it is so much work.. 5 metres of wood. No matter has to be done. Have decided to try the skill saw instead of the chainsaw this year as I am sick of having to sharpen the chain so frequently. It will be a watch this space experience. Today am off to try for 9 holes as I know there is no tournier scheduled, then back here to cut and re-create some garments that I want to be able to wear. Later, when cooler, time to mow my pocket handkerchief, and then the hedges need cutting. That will be a week long job. Am certainly back from holidays .... Happy Monday.

Sunday

Faith is the bird that sings when the dawn is still dark.

Good Morning World...Sun 14th, 5.15, 13dg. Back home in my own little bed.. Fantastic. Firstly, may I thank you all for the wonderful messages for my Birthday... I am truly blessed to have so many wonderful friends in many corners of the world... It gives me a lovely warm feeling and makes my heart smile, thank you. Secondly, my snippet today is specifically for Bobbie... have faith and trust, all will be fine. Apart from the tornado that is my dressing room, I am back home from holiday and into my normal everyday again.. off to play 9 holes early this morning, and then a little Sunday afternoon delight on the terrasse. No point in overdoing things too quickly!!

Saturday 13th July

The hardest thing to learn in life is which bridge to cross and which to burn.

Good Morning World...Sat 13th, 6.27. Stuttgart.. and dressed to impress, as a Birthday Girl should, enjoying a champagne breakfast. 58 years of life.. good, bad, sweet, sad, ugly, memorable, trying, inspiring, forgettable, hilarious, unforgettable... I am blessed with family and friends.. the people that make 58 years worthwhile. Thank you
Heading back home today... one of the good parts of a holiday, apart from the memories, is returning home to your own bed.

Friday.. final day in Gran Canaries

The rarest thing in the world is a woman who is pleased with photographs of herself.

Good Morning World...Fri 12th, 7.32, 22dg. Friday... today we must leave this idyllic island and head home to some simple sensible living !! Gran Canaries is a fabulous spot to while away the days and nights, beautiful temperate climate, incredible sea fish and the Spanish wines are pretty darn good. Today we send the girls off to the waterpark for a final fling while we are doing some lying poolside with a long cool one. Yesterday was a brilliant "me" day... I went off solo for a pamper session.. a beautiful facial and massage then quiet poolside with a book. Not a soul to disturb me or to have to talk to... bliss. Incoming Stuttgart this evening where we will overnight before driving home tomorrow... Happy Days.

Thursday...

Why is it that most nudists are people you don’t want to see naked?

Good Morning World...Thurs 11th, 9.30, 21dg. Constant and warm... nice climate here in Gran Canaria. Back onto the beach yesterday afternoon and the comment above is very relevant... I do have to admire the women who are enjoying their beach time here... I am a firm believer in a mirror.. view of your front and view of your back before you leave the house... I am obviously far too concerned with the image I present. Say no more. Today I am looking for time out at a Spa.. need to have a pamper session, am feeling a little fried and sozzelled!! Yesterday we went to Las Palmas to do lunch .. we left the older girls there for a shopping afternoon.. I came back to lie on a beach chair.. what is that all about ?? Dinner out last night was a fish restaurant and they filleted and cooked for me fresh from the tank... Ohhh la la.

Wednesday, 10 July 2013

Wednesday...

I discovered I scream the same way whether I’m about to be devoured by a great white shark or if a piece of seaweed touches my foot.

Good Morning World...Wed 10th, 8.16, 15dg. Hard to tell but I think we have typical ocean high overcast .. forecaster tells me high of 25dg, yesterday was a warm day and we had a high overcast partly due to sand in the air from Africa, so I am told. I am a hobbler today as I have broken my second smallest toe left foot, collected it on the corner of the skirting board, and it was early in the day.. and no, not under the influence... No shoes inside means no protection, so consequently now, no shoes!! Well miffed and boy is it black. Yesterday El Patron took us out in his boat to view the island from the water... Fantastic afternoon swimming off the boat.. Today we are indulging in a little retail therapy in Las Palmas.. sans shoes!! Happy days.

Tuesday

My opinions may have changed, but not the fact that I am right.

Good Morning World...Tues 9th, 7.30, 20dg. Pitch dark, quiet, warm out and a temp that is supposed to rise to 25dg today. Yesterday we moved from our hotel and are now guests of a friend of the daughter.... Sitting quietly up in a "secure " compound on top of a hill surrounded by what was agricultural land growing tomatoes, avocado, cucumber. The land owners now find it more profitable to provide land and services for the tourist trade rather than grow the foods... interesting as there is just so much broken down and abandoned horticultural under cover growing areas left for the weather to destroy. Yesterday we were taken out to the Dunes, wined and dined beach side, once more on beautiful fresh sea fish.. seventh heaven... then swam in the sea until late. Finally poured into bed after 1.. will need to go home for a holiday and detox!! Today will be approached with no plans, a good way to start.

Monday.. on the move

No day is so bad it can't be fixed with a nap.

Good Morning World...Mon 8th, 7.37, 21dg. A beautiful day yesterday spent alternating between sun, shade, ocean and pool. Terrible life really !! Spent the late afternoon catching up on Murray's fantastic Wimbledon win, and then the highlights from F1 in Germany... another predictable win. Today we move, as I am not in charge it will be a surprise but I can recommend the Radisson Blu here in Arguineguin:.. the staff are fantastic, the facilities brilliant and we have had a wonderful time. Weather helps. Yesterday my Poppet turned 8 months old and celebrated by sitting on her own from crawl position.. Bless.

Sunday... another hot lazy day poolside

Quality means doing it right when no one is looking.

Good Morning World...Sun 7th, 7.52, 20dg. Dawn just lightening the sky at almost 8am.. amazing. Beautiful bluebird day yesterday, so after breakfast we swam and lay in the sun all day.... absolutely perfect. Note to self... drink more water. Question of the day... why do parents let their children run around the pools ? ... Surely it is an accident waiting to happen. Dined on fresh fish again last night, that is a taste you miss living inland. All in all a wonderfully relaxing day, but will probably have to spend some time in the shade today!! Thrilled the Lions thrashed the Wallabies.. fantastic series result. Willing Andy Murray on today for a win, and in Germany, well, Hamilton is on pole but we will see. Prefer that Vettel is not on the podium. Just popping down for a lovely long Sunday champagne brunch...Enjoy
