Beautiful bars.
When you want a cafe-style treat at home, this oaty bar with peanut butter is perfect. It takes very little time to make and keeps well in the fridge. It’s perfect for snacks and lunches. Add a few nuts if you like — crushed hazelnuts are a favourite of mine. The recipe has runny honey, I had omitted this as I do not like or need sweetened food. There are dates that do that and dates are sweet enough by way of their drying method. Just delicious.
BEAUTIFUL BARS
Makes 16
1 cup large oats, lightly roasted
1 cup mixed nuts
1 cup mixed seeds
½ tsp cinnamon
1 cup dried dates, soaked in warm water for 10 minutes
½ cup crunchy peanut butter
¼ cup runny honey
1. Line a 20 x 20cm tin with baking paper.
2. Drain the dates.
3. Place oats, nuts, seeds and cinnamon in a large bowl.
4. In another bowl mash the dates with the peanut butter and honey (or give a quick whizz in the food processor).
5. Fold this through the oat mixture. Press mixture into tin and smooth the top. Refrigerate until needed.

INGREDIENTS
Puy Lentil Chicken Salad with Apple and Hazelnuts
Puy lentils are my go-to base for a range of salads. This one’s topped with tender chicken, juicy slices of apple and crunchy hazelnuts with a tangy mustard dressing.
4 single chicken breasts, skin on
2 teaspoons caraway seeds
oil and butter, for cooking
1 cup puy lentils, cooked
2 cos lettuces, cut into wedges through the stem
1–2 braeburn apples, quartered, cored and thinly sliced
400 grams assorted greens – choose one or a selection of green beans, snow peas and sugar snaps, blanched
⅓ cup roasted hazelnuts, roughly chopped
Dressing
4 tablespoons mayonnaise
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 clove garlic, crushed
sea salt and ground pepper
METHOD
Dressing: Whisk all the ingredients together in a bowl and season.
Salad: Season the chicken on both sides and sprinkle with caraway seeds.
Heat a little oil and butter in a sauté pan and cook the chicken until fully cooked through. Set aside.
Toss the lentils with 2 tablespoons of the dressing and season generously with salt and pepper.
To serve: Divide the lentils between plates. Top with the lettuce wedges, apple, the green vegetables and sliced chicken.
Drizzle the dressing over the top, then scatter with hazelnuts and a grind of pepper.
Pantry note: Puy lentils are a small dark green lentil with a slight peppery flavour and hold their shape during cooking. They are the only lentil to be identified by area of cultivation – grown in the Le Puy region of France. To cook, cover with plenty of cold water, bring to the boil and cook until just tender but still with a little bite. Drain and rinse under cold water then drain well.

#MaybellineBrowTattoo #TestDrive #OMG #QueryTheCostOfFailure #NotImpressed
So, yesterday I made the decision to try something a little different and hopefully longer lasting than the daily powder to fill the gaps in my thinning and aging eyebrows. After years of over plucking, and trust me they never regain their young glory, I now resort to using eyebrow colour fillers / pencils. I have a whole drawer of this that and the other, all of which do a good, bad and ugly job. Microblading is just a tad too permanent for me at the mo so I decided to test driving the new Maybelline Brow Tattoo.
First problem was the directions on the box are minimal, secondly, the shop assistant was as good as useless for any information on the product and what to expect. Bad look Maybelline on a new product release here in NZ. In for a penny, in for a pound, I paid the $24.99, similar price to any eyebrow product available.
This morning I applied the gel in a thick layer over my brows. Waited the mandatory 20mins for it to dry, and then, as per instruction peeled it off against the grain of the hair. Perfect colour on the skin, I was very pleased with the end result. Looking in the mirror after my shower and ready to put my makeup on... all the colour had washed off. It may have left a little colour on the eyebrows but not on the skin. Total Fail, Total. What part of Brow Tattoo does that end result equate to??? Unimpressed to say the least on many counts.
Would I recommend.. not at all.

#SantaOrSantasHelper #FireplaceRemoved #HouseWithNoHeating #ShitFightToCome
The boys from the firm that supplied my Stovax fireplace arrived today to remove the fire. Long story short it pumps out too much heat for the fire rated wallboard here in New Zealand. Knock me over with a feather... no-one involved in the purchase, installation or reinstallation after the first wall failed, has any faith that replacing the whole wall again will fix the problem, but the Auckland importer insists on no refund unless installation conditions are met. Well, I say no more renovation on this house. It is only 7 months old. There are so many problems associated with this build the house feels more like second hand than brand new. A pleasure to live in...No, without a shadow of a doubt a bloody joke. Now I wait on the builders to come back again and reinstate a wall that can finally be finished. Gott Sei Dank.

#ClassicBuilders #TheFireman #PissedOffMoochie #WitsEnd
Friday evening... 15th September...September is always a difficult month but... Positives .. Oh Yay, the weather man gave us a whole day without rain and... temps at 21dg. Flippers back in the cupboard until tomorrow so I understand. It has been a desperately wet winter. Positive, I have a Poppet on sleepover. Cute as two sets of boots, love, love, love. Negatives. This house. Not to be too bogged down with the close your eyes and you will not see it stuff that winds me up, let me cover off the glaringly obvious, in your face, shouting like a fish wife, wanting to punch someone issues. Today I had a "craftsman " from Auckland come to grind four concrete repair patches that the builder created when he whacked two 4x2 beams onto the concrete pad to brace the walls. Not in plan, not required on voyage. No one can understand why the builder did it knowing it was polished concrete floors. Moron.Tradesman Stuart was here several weeks ago to dig out exsisting repair plugs and try to work his magic. No vacuum cleaner to clean his massive mess. Used mine. Today he rocks up to grind the repairs down to floor level, I ask, before he starts, has he got plastic sheets to cover the kitchen benches, cupboards and the pantry from concrete dust. All the things I requested. No prizes for that one. Did he bring a vacuum cleaner to try to cope with the concrete dust did he heck. So I stopped him from doing the work. We had an exchange of words and he went to sit in his van until the the Quality Assurance man from Classic arrived to mediate. I moved into this house 2 weeks before Christmas 2016. Today, September 15th 2017, I am still surrounded and annoyed by tradesmen. Incompetents, morons, fools, idiots, imbeciles, total feckwits... seemingly a glimpse of the way the New Zealand building system now works. Stuff the all care and no responsibility, just whack me with a no care and couldn't give a toss attitude. Several months ago I had a critical meeting with the group builder I chose to build this place. A house. Yes. A home. No. I started the meeting with a recorder on the table to record my demands and their responses. Protect me as no one else will. I have a fireplace, brilliant, a Stovax, and it pumps fantastic heat but in providing me with heat it keeps cracking the wall around the fireplace. The wall has been replaced once only to crack again. I have said take it out. Refund me. Let me put another source of heating in this house. The provider / installer who in my opinion and that of the build company has been totally negligent in all they have done from the very initial installation, have said no, we will replace the wall again and vent the outside chimney breast and then see what happens. Eff Me. No, I have no confidence, the fire pumps out too much heat. I will no longer sit here in my sitting room with furniture under dust covers and all the wall fittings on the floor. Come to the bloody party please Western Bay of Plenty District Council. I have lodged a complaint with them as they signed off the faulty installed fireplace, and they demanded a new resource consent be lodged for the repair and still have not fronted here in the house to look, check, sign the second repair off, and now we are back to square one. A broken wall, The Fireman absolutely refusing to refund and a build company ripping their hair out a they have to deal with me the owner of the defective house. Factor in a lateral meniscus waiting on an MRI and operation. Ahhh New Zealand. This was a really bad and hugely expensive mistake.

Just Perfect....
Dear Jacinda,
I’ve seen you on the telly, dear,
There’s quite a hullabaloo,
But taxing this and taxing that
Means my two ticks stay BLUE
There’s quite a hullabaloo,
But taxing this and taxing that
Means my two ticks stay BLUE
You’ll tax us on our assets
There’s nothing you won’t snatch
You’ll tax us on our holidays
You’ll tax the boat or bach
There’s nothing you won’t snatch
You’ll tax us on our holidays
You’ll tax the boat or bach
You’ve said you’ll slap a tax on fuel
So when I need the car
I can’t afford to fill it up
I won’t get very far!
So when I need the car
I can’t afford to fill it up
I won’t get very far!
You’ll tax water by the litre
And our farms will hit the wall
Have you forgotten it’s the farmers
Who grow food to feed us all?
And our farms will hit the wall
Have you forgotten it’s the farmers
Who grow food to feed us all?
You’ve said you’ll tax emissions,
Does that mean mine as well?
If I can’t afford to fart, my dear,
Your tax can go to hell!
Does that mean mine as well?
If I can’t afford to fart, my dear,
Your tax can go to hell!
You’ll tax us on the things we own
Is nothing off the table?
I dread to think what else you’ll tax
As soon as you are able
Is nothing off the table?
I dread to think what else you’ll tax
As soon as you are able
I’m told you want a ‘gift’ tax
So the bit I’ve got put by
I can’t give to my grand-kids?
They can kiss my gift good-bye?
So the bit I’ve got put by
I can’t give to my grand-kids?
They can kiss my gift good-bye?
You’ll take the joy from giving
And even when I’m dead
You’ll slap me with Inheritance tax
Or take my house instead
And even when I’m dead
You’ll slap me with Inheritance tax
Or take my house instead
Taxing the shit out of all of us
Is just not very nice
And I’m hoping at the polls, my dear,
The Left will pay the price
Is just not very nice
And I’m hoping at the polls, my dear,
The Left will pay the price
Truth to tell, Taxinda,
I think you’ve lost the plot
You’ll not get my vote, sweetheart,
My ‘comrade’ you are not!
I think you’ve lost the plot
You’ll not get my vote, sweetheart,
My ‘comrade’ you are not!
So thank you for reading my letter,
I’ve got things off my chest
Just leave it up to National, dear…
They really do know best.
