Happy New Year...

Good Morning World... Tues 31st, 6.22, -0.9dg. New Years Eve... Wow another year almost done and dusted... Thank God!! I said at the roll over of 2012 2013 that I was pleased to see the old out and the New Year start, but am even more pleased to see this one end and a new one start... 2014 can only be a good and happy time of that I am certain. I wish all of you who talk with me the best sparkling, bright, happy, healthy and safe 2014. Yesterday I was on the verge of melt down.. I learnt a very valuable lesson yesterday and that is that I am human. I will never do another back to back roll over booking again.. ever.. you read it here. Scheisse, what a day trying to clean up after one lot as the next lot were arriving.. thank goodness for my brother and his wife my invaluable vacuumers and refillers. English family dispatched safely to train station, my family off up the mountain for a half day on skis. Today the weather is forecasted for another beautiful day so I have been convinced to join my family up the hill for a few runs... I will go up in time for lunch and then do a couple of hours . Planned our evening for tonight.. biggest thing will be to spread it out to make it to midnight... a trip up to the Church square to join in the elbowing and drinking with all the associated music and hilarity that is a Schrunser gathering, and then home for a later than normal dinner before the fireworks really kick off. Have some super super Châteauneuf du Pape that we will be drinking with dinner and then the obligatory bubbles to toast the arrival of 2014... how ever you do it enjoy it. Wishing a Happy Happy New Year to you all. Thank you for all your love and support and friendship in 2013. Group Hug ....

Into Lech for a day.. no skis

Good Morning World... Mon 30th, 6.07, +0.1dg. Todays forecast is for a bluebird day and after 25 cm of new snow on the mountain over Saturday night the skiing will be good. Yesterday we went into Lech to have lunch with friends of my brother's from England and they came into Lech for Christmas and skiing. The train trip was short and sweet and a connecting bus took us from Langen am Arlberg into Lech in the falling snow... picture postcard perfect. It was another of those drink, eat and drink some more days.. gosh and then I ask myself why I cannot function so well !! We had a fab day with a marvellous group of people, delicious Veuve and scrummy food. A small touch of retail therapy... and may I add, it is never a good idea to go shopping with your sister in law and friend after drinking all day... do I have buyers remorse, sort of but not really. Will just have to go and do a bit more cleaning !!! Today my English guests leave on the 10.03 and I have 2 hours to clean and re-present the Dachboden for incoming guests from Germany. These ones are coming in specifically for the New Years eve celebrations... I hope I am not disappointed. Tomorrow is New Years Eve... the valley goes ballistic from 23.00, until almost 1am, the air becomes so thick with gunpowder smoke you cannot see a lot. The fireworks have started already with the big bangers that resound around the mountains being lit earlier and earlier.... in every adult there is a little child somewhere. We have yet to make decisions on how we are going to see in the New Year, but guaranteed we will.

Good Morning World... Sun 29th, 6.12, +3.0dg. the roads are sounding very wet out, but because I have a body on the office floor I cannot go in and look out the window to monitor the road.. They are forecasting light flurries for this morning. I am thinking that is probably only at altitude at this temp. Yesterday was another day cleaning, first at my job then, and as I was still in clean mode, on return here in the house... as a girl must with so many feet in the house. So money in pocket thank you. Two trips up to the re-cycler with papers and plastics first trip, and then bottles second run... it is embarrasing all the clanking they make as you go over pavement bumps, then to stand for so long feeding them into the green and clear glass holes.. my excuse is I have extras in the house, and my brother is enjoying the occasional gin also... Yesterday they all had a full day on the piste... the Mother in the party came home limping with a slight twist to the knee, so ice packs administered and they all went off happily at 18.20 to catch the bus to go night tobagganing. I stayed quietly at home on my own trying to rest and re-group. I have to admit to a small touch of inability to keep up, probably over doing it. Oh well, This morning am feeling more Moochie than I have felt for quite a while, so game on in time for New Years. Today we, my brother and family, are heading off to Lech by train to socialise and rub shoulders with with the well heeled. Half an hour by train to Langen am Arlberg then a bus into Lech, it will be interesting to see how much snow they have on their side of the valley. My English family are having their final day up on the Hoch Joch, Mother's knee permitting, and the Father is off on a 5 hour snow shoe tour.. he is not a fan of alpine skiing just touring and hiking. His wish was for Lang-lauf but with no snow at this level there is sadly no lang-lauf here on the felds around the house. That is today sorted and then the English guests leave tomorrow morning, train direction Innsbruck - England. Quick turn around in the Dachboden to prepare for incoming German guests tomorrow afternoon.... and so life ticks quietly along.

Work and play

I've learned that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one.

Good Morning World... Sat 28th, 7.12, +5.0dg. Last night when we all went to bed it was registering a negative temperature.. now we are plus so the warm wind is back...  Forecast is for sleet and snow later today. Yesterday was an unmitigated success for all the people in the house.. It was a stunner bluebird day after the snow fall of Boxing day, but heavens didn't we need it, all that and masses more!! I was gone for a 9am job start and they all went in various directions to the mountain for a day on snow. My day was an interesting one, a bit of the old stick your chest out and get on with it, something I enjoyed ? no, not really, but a means to an end. Today I am back to the job again this will be a longer one as there are four apartments being vacated. This house will all be up the mountain again today, and then they are off night tobogganing, weather permitting, up on the Silvretta Montafon Garfrescha: at 5.5 km, the longest floodlit toboggan run in Vorarlberg ...Top Elevation: 1,500 m Base Elevation: 930 m Altitude difference: 570 m Length: 5,500 meters Accessibility: on foot Difficulty: Medium Features: - Night Lighting - Refreshments - Toboggan rental - every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 18.00 - 21.30 clock More info at www . silvretta montafon.at.
Last night the teenagers in the house all went down to the Ice Disco at the ice rink at the bottom of the road... it will be interesting to see how they all got on... seemingly no damage or broken bones otherwise I would have been woken. The stamina of the young, I have quite decided that I am feeling very bloody old and tired, I do not seem to have the bounce back anymore. Sigh.
My focus today is to try and get all the rubbish and bottles up to the Recyclinghof.. that will be two trips minimum. At least the weather is fine and the view as I walk is truly magical.

Christmas Celebrations finally done..

Good Morning World... Fri 27th, 5.47, + 1.4dg. I cannot see any stars, but the weather is supposed to lift and sun come out. Yesterday the sleet started here in the village around midday and by 2 it was snowing ... Yay... Not big fat fluffies but snow all the same. The field operators will be smiling. Both families are off up the mountain today but I am off to my first day of work... cleaning. This will be a watch this space kinda thing !!!! So ... Christmas Eve was a lovely time... house full and much coming and going. The Kindermette at 15.00 was just a lovely celebration of Christmas for the children. Then it was a quick leap over the back fence for liquid refreshments with my neighbours.. opps running late. Family arrived safely from Wet n Wild England and so it was game on. Christmas day dawned 13dg outside. Eight of shoehorned into the sitting room for bubbles, presents and breakfast in our P.J's. Christmas finery donned and then it was in the kitchen with a glass for company and lubrication for good cooking skills. Midday the guests arrived and so it was organised mayhem for the next eight hours... What a brilliant day.. fantastic company, just brilliant, and the food worked so well.. yes it was a squeeze around the table and in the dining room but socialising humans are so easily adaptable. The trip up to the re-cycler tomorrow will be a bit embarrassing.. it will be two trolleys full of bottles.. Heavens the clanking of the bottles as I walk will be a dead giveaway!! Final end of evening departure was a tad rowdy but all in all a fantastic day enjoyed by all. For the amount consumed over the period of the day we all dawned bright eyed and very bushy tailed yesterday the 26th... A good French red never lets you down. Tired yes, and it was a very piano house yesterday. Three of the guests went up the hill and skied in the falling snow, the rest of us went out walking, and of course to the supermarket to top up the empty wine cellar.. as you do... Today all are off to the mountain and the skiing should be lovely with the new snow, and I will get on quietly with my bits and pieces. I think they call that preparation for the New Years Celebrations. Happy Days. I have been threatened with death if I posted any of the more inappropriate celebration pictures so this is an edited version..

Good Morning Christmas World...Tues 24th, 5.59, +7.9dg... beautiful starry night out, so hopefully the day will be a sunny one. Not so for tomorrow they say, but then it has to happen. Yesterday was one, where, at the end by 5.30pm I said to myself..enough, I am sitting down. I finally had breakfast lunch and dinner all rolled into one meal with some pat on the back glasses of Merry Christmas cheer. My English guests arrived safely at 2.30.. they had had a 3am start from England.. ooohhh you just imagine how the two teenagers in the family were!!! All installed, sorted tickets, skis, boots and lessons for a day up on the Hoch Joch today, so I hope that the wind does not spoil their day. This evening my brother and family arrive from England and after some quick refreshments we will all go en masse to the Church for midnight mass. It is quite a beautiful evening in the Church here in Schruns. My day today will just be de-frosting all the prepped food in readiness for tomorrow and checking the to-do list. Making little croissants this morning for the breakfast and bubbles tomorrow. It is impossible to buy small croissants only monsters so as you do.. sleeves rolled up and do my own. Did a batch of pikelets last night for the smoked salmon and horseradish cream... one of the aperitivo nibbles before lunch. Devils on horseback to do this morning for the aperitivo tray, and all other nibble offerings have to be done tomorrow... Sorted.. I just hope there is enough Bubbles, as this year I have been on a budget drive. That done now it is slow down mode and time to wish everyone of you who read these daily notes, and follow me through all my highs and lows a fantastic Festive Season... I hope your time over Christmas is filled with all the important things in life... family, friends, love and laughter. How ever you celebrate this festive, holiday time, enjoy. 23rd.. Smile, it's nearly Christmas.

Today be thankful and think how rich you are. Your family is priceless, your time is gold, your health is wealth.

Good Morning World... Mon 23rd, 5.19, + 3.5dg. We have a pattern of Föhn wind which is disastrous for the snow pack, and they say that will take our temps into double digits tomorrow with incoming rain for a good part of the 25th... Do not have an issue with the rain as long as it is snow up where it is needed. We will see... fingers crossed. Yesterday I was the housekeeper from hell... Starting in the cellar with preparation for all the incoming ski boots and clothing for drying, so mats down and hanging racks sorted by the radiator . ... and FYI all ironing and folding done.  Wine cellar tickled so I can lay hand on things quickly, or indeed a slave for the day can find what is required. Bedroom level dusted and vacuumed and two extra beds created and made. Dachboden vacuumed and tweaked in readiness for 2pm arrival of my family of four from England... hopefully they will be able to fly out today as the weather across England may be a challenge. My family arrive from England tomorrow so the same applies. Today I am bringing the other dining table up from it's hidey hole in the cellar as it will give me time to play with placement and organise the decoration of the table... This I know will be a long slow job and I want to do it when no one is in the house. Rolled and tied all the serviettes yesterday as I watched a little FIS alpine ski racing, so my colour theme will be cream and gold over the whole table. Had to re-do the chocolate ganache truffle balls that the Pixie and I made on Saturday.. me thinks her measurement for the butter was not correct, so the set ganache was rollable but way too soft. We rolled it all into balls on Sat but I decided yesterday it was no good so tipped it all a pot, heated it added cream and butter and back into the fridge. Perfect solution so managed to roll the mix back into balls last night, so the sweet business has shut the doors for the forseeable future. My first job for today before I start the fun of table decoration is to clean the ovens that I sprayed yesterday... I just so love doing that!!! Not. Otherwise all tickety boo in house. Today the celebrations will still be going in Christchurch as my sister was married to a wonderful man in a small intimate at their home. I know it will have been a lovely day.. congratulations to you both.

Gosh... how horrid some people are... it still takes my breath away at the bare faced cheek of those that think if you've got it, thanks I'll have it ... an email from PayPal telling me my account has been limited until I download, unzip and verify ... PayPal tell me no email is ever sent like that.  The key being in amongst others that they never address you as Dear Member... always your full name.
I know it is illegal but gosh if only I had a small weighty object that moves at high velocity..

Two more sleeps...

Good Morning World... Sun 22nd, 6.19, +3.0dg. I am not saying a thing about the outside temp other than to say Ohhh dear. Thank goodness we have an ice rink at the end of the road. So two more sleeps and then game on... I am ready... yesterday finished all the sweet bits, boned the three chickens, cooked the pea and bacon stuffing, filled, rolled, tied and froze the birds .. Tick. Today the lamb comes out for defrosting, marinade sorted. Will chargrill it on the little kettle bar-b-que first before finishing it in the oven. Practising making little croissants for Christmas morning ... rule of house you want to drink you have to eat... selection of finger morsels sorted while we do bubbles and presents, even though it is a skinny offering under the tree... all the children coming to stay are over 15 so the dynamics of present time changes dramatically. Today is the day to put the laundry to rights.. jeez that means ironing and putting away all the summer fripperies I took to New Zealand. Sort the two extra mattresses one for the dressing room and one for the office, and make them up as beds, quick duster flick, vacuum and tweaks upstairs ... nothing too strenuous .... Sit down and stay down. That part of the day I am looking forward to. Made the decision not to apply for the evening job... am not certain I like the idea of people in my house when I am not here.. I know it sounds crazy as I have a B n B...I assume that feeling will change in time., the guests that are arriving on 30th from Germany for New Years are now staying on until the 2nd, they check out at 10am as another couple arrive from Israel at 2pm... talk about quick turn around this will test my skills, and that now means that January is almost solidly booked Planning the oven juggling to get it all cooked and served in a good orderly manner, on 25th, thank goodness I have a relatively high tolerance to certain things !!! It's almost Christmas....

Good Morning World... Sat 21st, 5.45, 0.0dg outside. We have a beautiful starry dawn sky, so am guessing that the snow alert from yesterday did not deliver a lot of anything. Friday dispatched very efficiently thankfully and so many containers filled in anticipation of hungry people. Little gift bags sorted, filled, tied and ready to deliver. As today is Saturday will dash off to Bludenz by train and do the final top up for the fridge then it is back to finalise the house for all the incoming guests. First lot arrive 23rd mid afternoon and the second lot 24th mid afternoon. Then the ballon goes up... Have to go up into the attic and drag out a spare mattress for me as I will be sleeping in the office while the house is so full... Nice girls give their bed to their Brother !!!  But it is only until 2nd Jan. It will be interesting to see how my little house will cope under the pressure of 8 adults, showering eating and playing.. very interesting. In amongst all of that hopefully skiing for the majority and Lang-Lauf for the minority. Ohh happy days... as long as it all goes peacefully and with a minimum of fuss and stress then I will be smiling. There was a brilliant job advertised locally in the newly re-furbished Lowen Hotel, for two hours an evening 5 days a week.. I imagine turning down beds.. I am sitting contemplating my navel on this one as it would suit me down to the ground. Strangely enough.. and no open mouths thank you... I do not go out at night to socialise, unless under extreme pressure to do so, so it would fill the evenings and my wallet nicely, but the big question is will it impact on what I have already got in place especially over Christmas and New Year with guests in the house. Dilemma. One I am sure that will resolve itself. So feet on the ground running for the next three days then the big man appears and it is relax time... sort of. And I have been so good... really, but then I am sure he knows that. 

Quite perfect really....Christmas spirit and all !!!

Friday 20th... 4 more sleeps

Good Morning World... Fri 20th, 4.54, +2.6dg. Another hot morning... does not bode well for the snow pack as we had a Föhn (foehn) wind yesterday, and I hear the back of the Hoch Joch is not in stellar condition. Sigh. Perhaps the rain they are forecasting will be snow up at altitude, a knee deep white Christmas would be nice if it could be organised please. Yesterday was spent in a blur of activity punctuated with drop ins, drop offs, deliveries, aperitivos, cooking and electrical workmen fixing some glitchy bits and putting in new plugs in the house....all done to Christmas carols on the stereo. Have also picked up another four to sit for lunch at Christmas table, so if my little house was bulging with eleven for lunch it will be positively groaning with fifteen. Cannot now promise the meal will be served extra piping hot... Always Paulii's requirement!!. Ahh the joy of just including people for no other reason than it is a perfect time to share and care. I would like a slow day today but have a 12.30 pixie collection from school as we are making chocolate truffles, will also task the pixie with some pastry stars of all sizes so we can create star Christmas trees for the dessert tray. Busy little hands are good hands. I could put myself under pressure and try to get a handyman in to do a shelf in the Dachboden for the new television, but am thinking not as I am running out of steam. If I do that then I have to organise a tech boy to do setup.. almost too hard basket. A good nights sleep from start to finish would be a treat, am starting to feel just a tad crazy...Coffee time...

Countdown.. 6 days

I've learned that making a "living" is not the same thing as making a "life."

Good Morning World... Thurs 19th, 6.14, 1.9dg.. Ohhh we are in the positives... and the forecast is for rain a little later today. That will hopefully clear the ice patches on my path and driveway that I have not been able to shift. Yesterday was a trip to my hairdresser, so now am looking picture perfect for Christmas... well, that's my story. My hairdresser is so shocked that I am going to start cleaning to earn a euro that he has made some work suggestions for me... could be interesting. Home for a little aperitivo, lunch and the creation of some more sweet fancies, then off into Bludenz to get some table bits n bobs. I must admit I was naughty.. well very naughty really , as I had already completed two Christmas presents for myself, one which has been delivered and one on the way... now I have a third. Opps. But really, in all honesty you have to have something to open on the 25th. Ahhh.. life's little pleasures. This morning I have a visit from an Australian woman who comes every year with her two little boys and spends six months here in Austria up in Bartholomäberg .. we met on the bridge at the swimming club comp last week as we were shouting encouragement at the littles. Her husband, Austrian, works on a fly in fly out arrangement in the middle east so she places the children here in school .. fantastic way of life for the children.. they learn the language, learn to ski, learn about life in Austria. Later my day will be back in the kitchen, making the Christmas mince pies, pastry made yesterday so today will roll, fill and bake. Made the "do ahead" gravy last night and it is in the freezer, will make the stuffing today and freeze ready for cooking on 25th. I just   Jamie Oliver. He is so practical and the recipes never fail. Tick tick tick. Opened a bottle of red out of the cellar last night.. just a test drive to see if it was still drinkable... it was a 1999 French red that was one of the many I bought over from NZ when I shifted the house. I am impressed... those of you who know me will be well impressed.. it is not often I drink a red, but am thinking to serve it on Christmas day so a girl must be sure of the drinkability... Just saying !! So countdown now into single digits.. Forward motion ...full speed...

Another Red Flag... Be aware.. jamesharris240@gmail.com

Shame on you Gmail for not taking action when requested.

I posted this warning on the 10th September 2013... thank goodness two people have read it and contacted me as they too have been contacted by this person with the email address... jamesharris240@gmail.com... I have asked Gmail to investigate this address as it is used for scams but he is still operating so obviously Gmail do not see a problem.. Shame on you Gmail. 

To the latest person who contacted me, as they had been contacted by this person, he is absolute filth and will harass you unbelievably. Put warning posts on all your social medias with his email address to alert as many people as possible that this person/people are operating in a fraudulent manner. 


Naive or just stupid ? Red flag this

This man or someone calling himself this,

has ripped me off for the princely sum of euro 1772.00 this morning at 9.26am.

He had contacted me to purchase my late husband's electric wheelchair that I had been advertising for sale on an Austrian website.

I generated a Paypal invoice for the price I was asking for the wheelchair which was 4,500 euros.
It was sent through Paypal. I received this answer on all the correct letter heads...

I then had a series of emails from this mongrel James Harris eventually requesting me to send 1772.00 euros through Western Union to the shipper as nothing could proceed until the shipper had the details and money, at which time PayPal would release the asking price plus the extra costs for shipping.

Seems authentic enough doesn't it???
He then sent me this mail...

I have just receive an alert from PayPal Customer Care with the confirmation email that the payment has been made,a total of €6,280.00 EUR was sent,€4,500.00 EUR for the wheelchair Purchased and the extra €1,700.00 EUR for the shipping charges and am sure you notice that,the €80.00 EUR is for the western union charges,so make sure you send the money to the address below via western union.

   With the issue of my details,transferring the name of ownership and signing of all paperwork will be done by the pick up agent so you don't have to worry about that.My shipper would be coming around to your area to have the wheelchair picked up once you have sent the shipping charges fee to them,as i need you to let me know what time you want them to come for the pick up . I advises you to check your Inbox or your Junk/Spam mail in case you did not get the confirmation email from PayPal yet.

I will be waiting to hear from you once the money has been sent to my shipper.

I had no alarm bells ringing.. stupid, yes, I was so excited at the thought of selling some of Paulii's equipment that I have been storing and really want to get rid of the added bonus being that it would bring me some much needed cash. Instead I have sent the requested shipping amount.
Worse still PayPal Austria are closed for business after 6pm, and Western Union are having an unforseen emergency so I can talk to nobody about this.

Just ticking off the lists..

I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way they handle these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.

Good Morning World...Tues 17th, 6.06, -0.3dg which is really quite warm for the moment. Must be the full moon as it is beautifully bright out the window. Am feeling a little miffy at the mo as I cannot adjust the heating back to where I want it... namely to shut down for the hours that I select on the timer.. Grrr am watching the oil level positively draining out of the tanks. Best laid plans and all and best intentions of those that helped to heat the house for my return, but they have altered settings and now I will have to get them back to unalter them!! Saying that the house is impressively cosy. Yesterday was a winner day in several ways.. A trip to Bludenz with my buddy .. she had an appointment I wanted to get a couple of cooking ingredients and some avocados ... after our Let's go to Hofer for the avos, as that was all we both wanted.. I came out with a television for the Dachboden that was 239 euros but ended up costing me 80 euros.. I am still trying to work it out in amongst all the groceries I bought at the same time. Quick high five in the car and we left at great speed. Walked down to the Lidl after lunch for some super cheap Chateauneuf Du Pape, 6 euros a bottle on special, so another tick on the Christmas table organisation. Am now just waiting for the 25% off bubbles specials pre Christmas to top up the cellar, then only the lamb leg left to buy. Page 14 chocolate made, my brother in law will understand that one!! chocolate cups sorted, today is ganache making day to create truffles, and I will have a little pixie to help as she will make some for her family presents. Off to my new part time job this morning, to discuss what is required, so that we are both comfy with everything. Have the electro boys coming in this week hopefully to give me some new lights under the kitchen cupboards and install cables and such for my new TV upstairs. Pause while I go phew, and then a quiet offering of thanks that there has not been a lot of snow to slow me down this week. The weatherman tells me nothing in the forecast until a little rain perhaps Friday. My plan is to try and get up on the slopes for at least one morning before the Christmas madness hits and then all the tourists and families are up there.. when you live under the mountain you have the luxury of choice!!! My choice is not to battle with the crowds.
