Friday 5th Jan, 6.39, 4dg, high cloud ceiling but I can see the lights on the Golm ski field, and we do have a moon. It is a terrible forecast for the next 5 days with rain in the mix quite a few days. Shame. Yesterday it was sleeting on us as we left the house for the train to Innsbruck at 7.30am and from Bludenz climbing through the Arlberg snowing heavily all the way to Innsbruck. A beautiful winter wonderland climbing up through the pass at such altitude. The railjet was packed, wall to wall and corridors. We were lucky to nab a table in the dining car for three, so happily played crib the entire journey. There were a shed load of men, young and old drinking beer at 8.30 am and for the entirety of the journey which made for interesting viewing. Completed our search and find out in the big DEZ Einkaufszentrum with lunch at Ikea to please a young lady, rather than McDonalds!! Thankfully. It was absolutely persisting with rain as we caught the bus to head back to Innsbruck Hbf. All rail was running late on evening return journey due to the weather up and down the country. We took a "special train" put on we think after a large sporting event, and also being a busy time in the ski season, which had only four other people in our carriage, so we set up a little picnic on one of the seats and dined on smoked salmon, mozzarella, tomatoes, salt and pepper I always carry, hummus, and drank a bottle of prosecco chilled beautifully with snow from the platform in a new baking tin courtesy Ikea, out of little sippy bowls that are designed for mustard!! Practical, clever, ingenious. The new bamboo table from Ikea was used as the cribbage table for the return journey as the old train had no tables.
